Create or select your Resources

If you do not change any settings, your translated segments will be saved in a public translation memory available to all MateCat users.

You can create a private TM and upload your glossary from the home page by clicking the TM and Glossary dropdown arrow and selecting the option CREATE PRIVATE TM.

The Settings panel will then open. On the Translation Memory and Terminology tab, click on the + Create resource button, and a private TM key will be generated automatically. Once the private key has been generated, you can enter a description of the TM and/or glossary and then click Confirm.

Lastly, upload the updated TMX by selecting Import TMX on the right next to the private TM key. Click Choose File and browse for the TMX.

You can also add an existing TM stored among your active/inactive resources by selecting it from the dropdown menu which can be found on your translation memory and terminology tab. You can even select more than one resource to be added to your project, as shown in the screenshot below:

Another option is to search through your active/inactive resources by directly entering the corresponding TM description or private key number.

In order to see your TMs in the dropdown menu, you need to be logged in on the Translation Memory and Terminology tab.

Upload your file

To upload the file(s) for translation, you can either:

  • drag and drop them, or
  • browse for them by clicking + Add files

Optionally, you can give your project a name by entering it in the relevant box.

You can also delete a file that you have uploaded by clicking the dustbin icon. To delete all the uploaded files, click the Clear all button.

If you don’t use a private TM in your projects, the translated segments are added to MyMemory, a collaborative public TM. The contents of the public TM can be used by anybody who has access. However, for confidential projects you can use a private TM and mark it as “Update” in the Settings panel. Using this setting, your segments will only be saved in your private TM.
